I witnessed a farmer sell a cow to his son for $1.00. The cow was down with milk fever. The father had given up on her after trying all of the "home" remedies. This was back when vets were scarce. Our FFA group came out and the teacher gave the cow a shot of "Caladex" (sp?) directly into her jugular. She was up and OK within a few minutes.
